About Brown Bear Software

Who are we?

We're a privately-held, independent software company headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. We've been producing, selling, and supporting our software online for a long time - since 1994! Here's an old list of some of our clients (sorry, this hasn't been maintained or updated in a long time.)

Glacier Bay National Park

The marine wilderness of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve includes tidewater glaciers, snow-capped mountain ranges, ocean coastlines, deep fjords, and freshwater rivers and lakes. In addition to geological wonders there's plentiful marine wildlife, including humpback whales, orcas, sea otters and much more. Then of course there are the bears, mountain goats, and...oh my it's just a wonderful place.

Katmai National Park

Katmai National Park has two distinct features. Bears, lots and lots of bears on the Brooks River; and the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. This is a spectacular forty square mile, 100-700 foot deep pyroclastic ash flow deposited by the eruption of the Novarupta Volcano in 1912. We first visited the bears, and then took a 5 day backpacking trip in the Valley of 10,000 Smokes. This page should help us remember that trip.

Prince William Sound

Prince William Sound encompasses 3,800 miles of coastline, bounded to the East and North by the Chugach Mountains and to the West by the Kenai Peninsula. Commercially important for the fishing and oil industries, the sound is also prized for its abundance of marine and coastal life, its rain forest of Sitka spruce and western hemlock, and its glacier-studded landscape. The sound contains 150 glaciers including 17 tidewater glaciers, known for dramatically calving huge ice chunks into the sea.

Prince William Sound Revisted

A few more photos from Prince William Sound. Most of these were taken near Icy Bay and Dangerous Passage.

The Haul Road

The Haul Road is the local name for the Dalton Highway, which runs 414 miles from the Elliott Highway near Fairbanks to Deadhorse, which is near the Arctic Ocean. It was built to supply the Prudhoe Bay oil fields.

Around Alaska

A variety of photos from around Alaska. Halibut Cove, McCarthy, Kennicott, Denali National Park, Mendenhal Glacier, Yakutat and, of course, more.
