Upgrading to Calcium 4.0 from an earlier version
Horizontal Line

Upgrading an existing Calcium installation to the latest version is not difficult. You just need to:

  • Install the current Calcium Demo version
  • Convert the Demo to the licensed version you've purchased
  • Copy the data from your existing 3.x installation
  • Remove the old 3.x installation

The new Calcium installation will not interfere with your existing installation.

1. Install current Demo version

If you haven't already installed the demo version, you need to do so. Please go to our download page for instructions.

2. Convert the Demo Version

Convert the demo to the licensed version, as explained here

3. Migrate Data

Finally, you need to copy your data from your existing installation to the new installation. Calcium stores all data in the data directory; you can simply copy this entire directory into the new installation, replacing the existing, default data dir.
Note: make sure you also copy all sub-directories in data too!

Or, you can copy your data files individually. These files should be copied from your previous installation to their same directories in the new one:

  • all *.Events and *.Preferences files in the data directory.
  • all *.Events and *.Preferences files in the data/Master directory.
  • the data/Master/sessionIDs file (if it exists)
  • the data/Master/reminders file (if it exists)
  • the data/AddIns directory, including any sub-directories and files that have been created or modified there

Usually, it's easiest to just recursively copy the entire data directory.

And as always, please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any difficulties!
