<title>Nov 21 - Leeds Social Festival, featuring a weekend-long 'Summat'</title>
<link>http://www.brownbearsw.com/freecal/VoiceEvents?Date=2009-11-21;EventID=4758127</link>
<description>Together for Peace AND THEIR PARTNERS ARE DEVELOPING A FRESH NEW PROGRAMME OF EVENTS for 2009: the Leeds Social Festival, featuring a weekend-long 'Summat'.

The main programme will feature a range of events and initiatives - sport, community dialogue, gigs, exhibitions, schools projects, film, poetry, and more - across Leeds, like in previous T4P festivals. Each will explore the big issues in our city and region, and what we can do about them.

And it will culminate in a weekend-long 'Summat' at Leeds University Union, when we and our partners aim to get 1000+ people together to take those issues deeper. Speakers confirmed for the 'Summat' include: Prof Tariq Ramadan, activist and writer Alastair McIntosh, and Jo Berry of Building Bridges for Peace. We're also talking with a range of other high-profile speakers and performers about participating.

Crucially too, we'll be working with dozens of local activists to host workshops looking at themes such as: social justice, the environment, international conflict, economics, and local community development. There will also be LOTS of opportunities to develop skills and campaigns, connect with diverse people and strengthen social networks, use creative methods (such as open space and world café) to explore the issues... and have a laugh!
