3. New Business –

      A. Potential fieldtrip/workshop opportunity (Ed Yee)

            Field Trip and printing workshop – Exclusive for EOH Club members

            Tentative plan –  Weekend to be announced

                Field Trip (Kualoa Ranch), Saturday

                Printing Workshop (KCC), Sunday

                Cost/participant to be determined (.. transportation at Kualoa Ranch)

                Open to EOH members only, no guests

      B. Club computer (and software) for meetings (Jim Young) 

            The need for a club computer was described and discussed. 

            The membership discussed and approved a $1,500 expense for a MAC “MINI” with accessories and service agreement.

            Various members offered speakers to reduce the club expense.

4. Guest Speaker – Professor Duane Preble topic, “The Relationship of Art and Photography”

A fantastic (short 1.5 hr lecture) of the transition of photography into a traditional art. 

Note: It seemed as if Ohia 118 was transformed to a “Manoa campus lecture hall”. 

The narrated slide show of of old photos and art works coupled with current subjects provided a great RECAP of the subject.

-- Photo Submission Information for EOH HSL Exhibit -

 

       Monday, 22 March 2010, at the EOH General Meeting.

 

 

      a. One (1) submission per member (in good standing)

           1. Photo taken in CY-2009 thru Feb 22, 2010,

           2. There are no specific categories

     

      b. Content/Quality  - must be “suitable for library staff and patrons” (children to seniors)

 

      c. Submission -

           1. Submission size – nominal 8" x 10", maximum  8" x 12" (for 2:3 aspect ratio photos)

                Print only,  mat, mounting board or framing is not required.

 

           2. Do not sign the front or back of your submission.  Signed submissions will be rejected.

 

           3. ID numbers, (for jury use), will be assigned to each photograph by the exhibit committee.

           

           4. On a separate card, list the following for your submission:

              a. EOH member/photographer’s name, (required) for use in the exhibit catalog)

              b. Title of photo (required) for use in the exhibit catalog)

              c. Desired Exhibit Format (required) - Select 1 (one) of the following

Journey To Inner Mongolia

Prepared for the Eyes of Hawaii Camera Club

Itinerary – Updated 3/11/10

 

8/8/2010                        Depart Honolulu For Beijing

8/9              Arrive in Beijing, Stay at Jianguo Men Hotel (4 star)

8/10          Leave Beijing in the morning for Luoyang, an ancient city in central ChinaVisit Longmen Buddha’s stone cave and the Shaolin Temple, famous for its order of fighting Buddhist monks. Take an overnight train to Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi province.

8/11          Visit the walled city of Pingyao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its Ming and Qing-style architecture. Explore the streets and shops of this first banking capital of China and see the location of Chinese director Zhang YiMou’s famous film “Raise The Red Lantern.” Stay in Taiyuan.

8/12          Visit the Wutai Mountain, sacred to both Daoists and Buddhists.  Observe pilgrims on their way to worship.

8/13          Fly to Yinchuan, once the capital of the ancient Western Xia Kingdom and now the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous region. The Western Xia Kingdom was founded 770 years ago and was overthrown by Ghengis Khan in the 13th century. Visit the Western Xia Imperial Tombs and the Eastern Pass Mosque of the Islamic Hui people. Stay at Yinchuan.

8/14          Shoot photos in the spectacular Shapotou scenic area and Tonghu grassland, both part of the Tengger Desert. Stay in Zhongwei town hotel.

8/15          Continue photo shooting at the Qingtong Gorge, ancient Ming Great Wall and popular Chinese movie settings. Stay at Yinchuan Hotel

8/16          Arrive at the vast Erdos grassland to photograph the Mongolian culture, people, architecture, and enjoy traditional food.  Overnight at Hangjinqi Hotel.

8/17          Visit the Kubuqi Desert for more photography. Camel riding optional.

8/18          Visit the mausoleum of Gengis Khan and Yellow River Gorge. Stay at Dongsheng hotel

8/19          Attend the annual Mongolian Naadam Festival to see horse racing, archery, wrestling, and dancing. Stay at Dongsheng Hotel

8/20          Fly back to Beijing in the morning. Half day sightseeing in Beijing. Stay in Beijing Jianguo Hotel

8/21          One free day in Beijing.

8/22          Return to Honolulu Hawaii arriving 9:00 am 8/22.

Notes:

1)            This trip is being organized around attendance at the Naadam Festival and the itinerary may change if the dates of the festival change.

2)            Upon your first arrival to Beijing, dinner will be on your own, $2 transportation tips for the driver and tour guide each is recommended

3)            Hotel in Beijing offer free breakfast but $1 tip is recommended for room service

4)            $5 tip per day per person for Inner Mongolian tour guide is recommended

5)             August 20-21 Beijing: Optional tours are available to see the Great Wall, the Ming tombs, the Imperial Palace, the Royal Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, Tian An Men Square, the History Museum, the Peking Man site, the National Opera House, and the Olympics facilities. A one-day Xi’An tour to see the terracotta warriors can also be arranged. Meals, transportation and tours on your own.

 

 

Estimated Travel Costs:

 

$3600/pp ($320 additional for single occupancy hotel room) The exact price is subject to airline surcharges at the time of booking.

 

What’s included:

 

Hawaii to Beijing round trip airfare.  China domestic airfare, train tickets. All Chinese location hotels, meals*, local transportation, tour guide fees, and China domestic flight accidental insurance of 300.000 RMB (about $43900). Beijing arrival pickup and departure to the airport.

 

What’s not included:

 

Option tours in Beijing. *Beijing meals except Breakfast at the hotel. Tour guide tips. China Visa fee of $170.

 

Options:

 

Japan Airlines will be used for this trip.  If you want to use mileage points or another airline for travel to and from Beijing, you can make your own arrangements.  But you are responsible for meeting the group at the Jianguo Hotel in Beijing in time to join the land portion of the tour. The tour will not wait for latecomers. 

 

EAST WEST GLOBAL TOURS will waive its usual $10 visa processing fee for applications made through them.

 

If you make your own travel arrangements to Beijing and don’t need to purchase a Visa, the land portion of the tour will be about $2,500 (double occupancy room).
