7/28/2010 Depart Honolulu For Beijing

7/29 Arrive in Beijing, Stay at Jianguo Men Hotel (4 star)

7/30 Leave Beijing in the morning for Luoyang, an ancient city in central China. Visit Longmen Buddha’s stone cave and the Shaolin Temple, famous for its order of fighting Buddhist monks. Take an overnight train to Taiyuan, the capital city of Shanxi province.

7/31 Visit the walled city of Pingyao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its Ming and Qing-style architecture. Explore the streets and shops of this first banking capital of China and see the location of Chinese director Zhang YiMou’s famous film “Raise The Red Lantern.” Stay in Taiyuan.

8/1 Visit the Wutai Mountain, sacred to both Daoists and Buddhists. Observe pilgr ims on their way to worship.

8/2 Fly to Yinchuan, once the capital of the ancient Western Xia Kingdom and now the capital of Ningxia Hui Autonomous region. The Western Xia Kingdom was founded 770 years ago and was overthrown by Ghengis Khan in the 13^th century. Visit the Western Xia Imperial Tombs and the Eastern Pass Mosque of the Islamic Hui people. Stay at Yinchuan.

8/3 Shoot photos in the spectacular Shapotou scenic area and Tonghu grassland, both part of the Tengger Desert. Stay on the grassland in a Mongolian yurt (ger).

8/4 Continue photo shoot ing at the Qingtong Gorge, ancient Ming Great Wall and popular Chinese movie settings. Stay at Yinchuan Hotel

8/5 Arrive at the vast Erdos grassland to photograph the Mongolian culture, people, architecture, and enjoy traditional food.

8/6 Visit the Kubuqi Desert for more photography. Camel riding optional.

8/7 Visit the mausoleum of Gengis Khan and Yellow River Gorge. Stay at Dongsheng hotel

8/8 Attend the annual Mongolian Naadam Festival to see horse racing, archery, wrest ling, and dancing. Stay at Dongsheng Hotel

8/9 Fly back to Beijing in the morning. Half day sightseeing in Beijing.  Stay in Beijing Jianguo Hotel

8/10 One free day in Beijing.

8/11 Return to Honolulu Hawaii arriving 9:00 am 8/11.

NOTE: This trip is being organized around attendance at the Naadam Festival and the itinerary may change if the dates of the festival change.

EOH Discussion Group Information:

A group account has been established to provide a “venue for Eyes of Hawaii club members to exchange ideas” with fellow group members, if desired. The group is currently restricted to Eyes of Hawaii members in good standing who wish to participate.  The group is not publicly announced (to the world).

The group manager must be an EOH member and will approve membership requests and send membership invitations as required. (Nominations for group manager?)

The account is configured, by default, to broadcast e-mail, to all group members.  Those members who do not want broadcast e-mail are allowed to select other delivery options, or request removal from the group.

Member's Presentation-Guidelines

1. The presentation should coordinated with the EOH president prior to the meeting.

2. Preparation

a. The preferred media for EOH member's presentations is the USB 2 flash drive.

                  Alternative - CD or DVD (from MAC, or Windows XP-OS, PC). (i.e. no Vista CD/DVD please)

b. Photos should be prepared in JPG format. (no raw, TIFF etc.)

c. JPG file size should not exceed 2 mb

d. File names/numbers should be assigned to represent the presentation order that is desired.

     (The default presentation order is based on a numeric then alphabet hierarchy).

1. Alternative 1 - No change, the original file numbers will determine the presentation sequence.

2. Alternative 2 - MS PowerPoint presentation using jpg files that do not exceed 2 mb,

                  (no renumbering is required)

e. Photos (jpg files) for the presentation should be placed in a single folder.

3. Members may bring their own computer and connect to the classroom projector.
