- Copying your data files:
One change to iCal 4.0 was to locate all working data files
to a separate data folder. Previous versions of iCal located the
data files directly within the installation folder. iCal 4.0
has a folder named data beneath the installation directory.
For comparison, previous data files would have been located:
C:\Program files\iCal v3.x\
Now they will be located:
C:\Program files\iCal v4.0\data\
With this in mind, the following files need to be copied from your
old installation.
- Copy Existing Calendars:
Your calendar files are those that end with a
.CAL extension. These hold all information pertaining
to each calendar. Copy them to your new 4.0 data directory.
- Copy Other Special Files:
The five files, _remind.rmd,
_subscribe.rmd, icalaed,
icalcategories and
icalvalidgroups: should also be copied from your
install directory of your previous version to the data directory. You may not have all five
of these files.
- Copy Existing Group Folders:
When calendar groups are created, sub-folders are created
beneath the installation directory. The folders correspond to the group
names that were created. Copy these folders to the 4.0 installation
data directory.
One other consideration
iCaleMail Service:
iCal initiates a System Service
to manage email requests. When installed using iCal 4.0 You will see the service named,
iCaleMail Service listed in the Services Dialog Box.
It is best to remove the Email service installed by any pervious iCal release.
The name of the old email service will be listed as
iCalMail Service or iCalMailsrv Service
To remove the service you must first stop the service from running in
the services dialog box.
Then to remove the old service open a system command prompt. Change to the
installation directory of your previous version of iCal.
Then, depending on your current version of iCal, issue from the command prompt
a command like:
C:\Program Files\iCal v.3.9 Web Calendar> icalmailsrv -remove
or
C:\Program Files\iCal v.3.7 Web Calendar> icalmail -remove
to remove the existing service.
