WESTPORT CT BEACH SKAT
It's that time of the year again !!!!!!
We will be holding our annual Westport Beach Skate during the FOURTH OF JULY weekend, on Saturday JULY 5th..

We will meet up at the Westport train station as always, btw 11am -11:30am.
You can train or drive up. Train arrives at Wesport at 11:15am. Trains are every hour so don't miss it. There will be one or two cars to leave your packs in.

We will start the skate at 11:30am.
Lunch in Fairfield at the Firehouse Deli.
Back by 4:30-5pm at the Westport Beach.
Distance should be around 15-18 miles.

For those who want the FULL EXPERIENCE, we will hang on the beach for a couple hours afterwards. And then, to the Country Club for a drink and a bite.

There's a train leaving back to the city every hour, so you can leave when you want. The train station is a few mn skates/10mn walk from the beach and the country club.

HELMETS AND WRIST GUARDS ARE REQUIRED. BRING WATER, SUN PROTECTION, AND LUNCH MONEY.

YOU ARE SKATING/BIKING AT YOUR OWN RISK, responsible for your safety, and agree not to sue or hold the Empire Skate Club or any volunteers responsible.

ALONG THE WESTPORT, SOUTHPORT & FAIRFIELD SHORE ENDING AT WESTPORT BEACH

WHEN: Saturday, July 05, 2014, 11:30 AM SKATE STARTS! The skate / bike is free and starts after the 11:17 AM NY Train arrives at WESTPORT Station.

WHAT: Join us for the ??th Connecticut Beach & Country Skate and Bike Tour. An exciting 24 mile route, done in two 12 mile parts, pre + post lunch. Optional 12 miles only. Includes 3 miles inland past beautiful homes on smooth roads in addition to the awesome Connecticut shoreline. This 12 miles each way skate is roughly 4 times the Central Park loop. If 12 miles is enough, you have the option of taking the train back to starting point for the beach party, or to go home. You should be comfortable skating at an intermediate level or biking in a group on roads with light traffic. We stop half way for lunch at the quaint Firehouse Deli in Fairfield, footwear required. Alternatively, bring your lunch and picnic in park across the street.

WHERE: Starts at 11:30 AM at Westport Train Station (South side of the track)

BY TRAIN: GROUP-UP AT GRAND CENTRAL STATION'S CENTRAL INFO BOOTH (42ND & PARK AVE.) BEFORE 10:00 AM WITH TRAIN TICKET IN HAND. CATCH THE 10AM TRAIN TO WESTPORT TRAIN STATION (NEW HAVEN LINE). CAN ALSO MEET TRAIN AT 125TH & PARK AT 10:05AM.. FARE (at the station): Round Trip Train Ticket is $23.50, One Way ticket is $11.75.

BY CAR: If you drive, the Westport train station is just off northbound Interstate 95, Exit 17, right, first left. Meet on the South side of the tracks. Parking is free on weekends. AFTERWARDS: We usually finish skating about 5PM, hang out on Westport Beach, have a swim, clean up at outdoor showers, and maybe eat at 'Joey's By the Sea' right on Compo Beach. Lobster Roll, Salads, Burgers, Veggie Burgers, and Paul Newman's foods available. Alternatively, we may just hang at the Beach where beach food available. In any case, bring beach gear that can be left in car at train station and driven to beach.

Trains head back to NYC after Skate / Bike every hour on the half-hour until10:32PM.

BIKE NOTE: * * * BIKES ON TRAIN NEED PERMIT: If you want to come by bicycle, you have to have a bike permit for the train. You can get the lifetime $5 permit the same day or before by previously downloading and filling out permit application at MTA bike webpage www.mta.info/lirr/about/Bicycles/BicyclePermit.ht. additional information: www.mta.info/lirr/about/Bicycles/.
Permit application and $5 fee must be given to ticket or conductor staff.
