FRIDAY 7TH TO SUNDAY 9TH FEBRUARY LORNE WEEKEND.
Saturday 8th – Erskine Falls up and back 16km, or a car shuffle for those who only want to do one way – PLEASE ADVISE WHEN REGISTERING. Walk from Lorne through the Camping ground and up the track to the falls. Return the same way. A beautiful walk, one I have done many times. We cross the river several times, however at this time of year it is not usually a raging torrent, more of a small leak. Afterwards, a dip in the sea to cool off for some, a cool shower for others.
Sunday 9th - Kalimna & Sheoak Falls circuit 15km or 7km for those not wanting to do both falls. This gentle walk commences at the Sheoak Picnic area and follows the route of an old timber tramway. The walk traverses through dense tree ferns, native forest, and follows a fresh water creek for most of the way. We stop at the Lower Kalimna Falls and then onto the upper Kalimna Falls. A climb up a small hill will take us to Lunch. We then walk to Castle Rock for stunning views of the Ocean and overlooking the Cumberland River, then down to the Sheoak falls and back to the Sheoak Picnic area along the Sheoak creek passing a cave known for the nesting site of Welcome Swallows during spring. For those wanting to shorten this walk they can take an easy shortcut back to the Picnic area and forego Sheoak Falls.
For those staying for afternoon tea we will stop at the Louttit Bakery, 46B Mountjoy Parade just down from the Anchorage Motel on the main road through Lorne. A quick dip in the sea before the run home could be quite refreshing.

PYRAMID ROCK WALK PHILLIP ISLAND.
We will meet at San Remo and organise a car shuffle as it is a one way walk. Then we will drive in convoy to the start at Kitty Miller Bay.
This is quite a short walk, but is might have some short/sharp climbs around headlands if the weather is rough (the hard bits). The walk it timed for a very low tide so hope we don’t need to do this. If we do need to, we have plenty of time to do it safely. The feature of the day is the isolated beaches, ship wrecks, and headlands, with the unpredictable seas and vistas of Bass Strait washing onshore. We will go slowly, and sit around and swim at the beaches depending on the weather. Bring a nice picnic. After the walk we can repair to The Nobbies for afternoon tea while viewing the seal colony offshore on Seal rock. Alternatively we can go to San Remo.

TRAMWAY FALLS AND TANJIL CIRCUIT WALK.
This is a circuit walk of about 13km that exploits the old tracks used by bush timber mills and their outlet tramway. Tanjil Bren is a small village part-way along the Mt Baw Baw Tourist Road from Noojee to Mt Baw Baw. We walk from the car park in the centre of the little village of Tanjil Bren. We walk along Saxton’s Road which gave access into the area south of the Tanjil East River to the site of Downey’s sawmill near the West Branch of the Tanjil River. Onwards we pass by the site of Porta’s mill and have lunch beside the triple Tramway Falls on the West Tanjil River. Across the river is the Kirchubel Historic area that we will partly explore so long as no more trees have fallen to block our way. We complete the counter-clockwise circuit back to Tanjil Bren this time following the formation of the old railway that used to carry the sawn timber out of the forest.

SUNBURY “ON FOOT”

This circuit walk explores the township of Sunbury, which was established in the 1850s. Much of the walk follows sealed shared paths along natural creeks (Blind and Kismet), although we will need to walk along some suburban streets to get between creeks and to and from the station, as well as one section of gravel path. We will pass under a grand bluestone rail viaduct to access the grounds of Rupertswood Mansion (1874), one of Victoria’s grand mansions and home to the first Ashes Cricket Match. Although private property, we can walk up to the mansion and then back out past the bluestone gatehouse. From there we will walk up a hill to a ridge for great views over the township and Rupertswood before heading back into town past a number of interesting historic buildings.

RUBICON VALLEY WALK
Grade/Length/Type: Medium 14 km circuit walk.
We travel in convoy to the Rubicon Valley where our circuit walk begins. Along the way, we will see four power stations in Victoria’s unsung Hydro Electric Scheme, and three sawmills - one of which was destroyed with loss of life in the Black Friday fires of 1939 and one in 2009. There are relics to see and towards the end of the walk, a panoramic view into the far distance. The walk takes us in a gradual ascent for 7 km along the formation of an old railway; we walk along a slightly descending aqueduct and approaching the end of the walk, walkers will have the choice of walking down the very steep 440 metres descent to return to our cars or make the descent much more gradually, by car. Apart from the descent of the incline, the walk is easy to medium. The descent is quite hard work.

BRISBANE RANGES – BOAR GULLY
The south end of the Brisbane Ranges N.P. has long been popular with both bush-walkers and the general public, with Anakie Gorge well known. This circuit on 4WD tracks skirts the Little River to the west, and the deep gullies of the Rowsley fault to the east.

SAT 25TH TO SUN 26TH OCTOBER BENALLA – MANSFIELD – TALLAROOK (GVRT) BIKE RIDE
This will be an ambitious ride, covering the full 121km length of the gravel-surfaced Great Victorian Rail Trail (leaving out the Alexandra spur line), plus an on-road leg from Benalla to Mansfield (which obviates the need to do a car shuffle). Due to the distance, and lack of bail-out options en route, it is suitable for experienced bike riders only. From Benalla, we will ride 65km down the busy Midland Highway (with a good shoulder most of the way), through Swanpool (morning tea at café) to Mansfield (a late lunch). From Mansfield, it will be an easy afternoon ride of 21km to our night’s accommodation Sunday will again require an early start, with a slightly longer day’s ride, of 100km, all on the rail trail. Lunch will be in Yea, after a morning ride of 55km. The final 45km leg to Tallarook should see us arrive in time for the trains from Tallarook to Southern Cross.

At Cowes, we will walk about 300m to the Continental Hotel for lunch in the Dining Room, overlooking Westernport Bay. After lunch, we return by ferry to Stony Point for homeward travel by train or car. The return ferry trip is a special Charter Trip since the next normal sailing is rather late in the day.

FRIDAY 31ST OCTOBER TO TUESDAY 4TH NOVEMBER YANAKIE / WILSONS PROMONTORY (CUP DAY WEEKEND)
We have a private house at Yanakie overlooking Corner Inlet just near the park entrance. You can come down for as many days as you like. It is quite flexible.
There are many nice day walks in the area. We will decide where to walk each day taking into account considering the condition of the weather and the participants. The base offers hot showers, comfortable accommodation, and a log fire to warm up if the day is cold.

FRIDAY 31ST OCTOBER TO TUESDAY 4TH NOVEMBER (CUP WEEKEND) LITTLE DESERT CAMP AND WALKS
At this time of year, after the recent rains in the district, we can expect to see a brilliant display of wildflowers in the bush in this park. The campground is well appointed on sandy flat ground with some light tree cover. There are several short walks that we will join together to make into day walks. For any who wish soft camping, there is a comfortable small motel in Dimboola about 30 km away.
