Personalizing medicine and advancing mathematical physiology with data assimilation

In this talk I will discuss using data assimilation to marry clinically collected data---here blood glucose, insulin, and nutrition collected and administered in the ICU---with mathematical models of the glucose-insulin system to forecast blood glucose and understand physiology in real time. The goals of this work are two-fold. First, we want to lay the foundation for a decision support in the ICU, here focused on managing the patientís endocrine system. Second, we want to work to better understand systems physiology, particularly directed toward features and understanding we can probe with data.
