GIVES seminar - Seth Roffe of the Center for Space, High-Performance, and Resilient Computing

SIAM is excited to announce the first event of our new Government and Industry Vocation Exploration Seminar (GIVES)! These seminars are tailored to graduate students, but are open to the entire department, including interested faculty. Seminar speakers from various industries and government agencies will join us virtually. They will spend some time during their talks discussing their academic background and opportunities for students at their workplaces, in addition to speaking about their current research.

The first of these talks will happen this Wednesday (10/13) at 11AM. Students and faculty can choose to join us in-person in SCB 4125, or to join us over zoom at ucdenver.zoom.us/j/93668235151. We are very excited to announce that our first speaker will be Seth Roffe of the Center for Space, High-Performance, and Resilient Computing.

Seth Roffe has three Bachelor's degrees in physics, astronomy, and mathematics, as well as his M.S. in electrical and computer engineering, from the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering at the same university. Since 2018, he has been a member of the NSF Center for Space, High-Performance, and Resilient Computing (SHREC), researching computing in space applications under the direction of Dr. Alan George. His main research interests are in resilience in sensor processing including data reliability and error classification in novel sensors. Roffe has worked with companies and agencies including NASA, the Department of Defense, the Naval Research Laboratory, and Lockheed Martin.
