Firearms violence is one of Oregon’s major causes of death and injury, annually responsible for nearly 100 deaths in Oregon and over 30,000 deaths nationally. Oregon’s medical community now recognizes this issue presents more than legal and constitutional challenges: it is a major public health threat. How can Oregon respond to this epidemic of firearms violence? Improved access to mental health care? Restricted access to firearms? More police training? And what is Oregon already doing to address this public health issue? Please join our panel of clinicians and public health leaders who will discuss what Oregon has done right, what it has done wrong, and what it can do better to reduce firearms violence in our state

2019 ACTION NIGHTS series: where we'll be joining together every other week in community to take meaningful and strategic action together. From January to June, when the 2019 Oregon Legislature is in session, many Action Nights will be centered upon what's happening in the Capitol, with opportunities to hear direct reports from our Conservation Director and Lobbyist, and hold our elected officials accountable to the people who got them elected. Action Nights will be all about praxis: we'll be learning and growing our organizing skills, then we'll immediately put our new skills to use around a current issue happening in the session.

Despite her rebellion against the music industry, Ani DiFranco became one of the most prolific indie artists — selling over 5.5 million albums and winning numerous awards, including a Grammy. In her new memoir, DiFranco shares the unconventional path that led her to become a music industry and activist trailblazer while maintaining an artistic integrity that has inspired and challenged many.

DiFranco will be joined in conversation by Cari Luna, author of The Revolution of Every Day. In a dialogue based on her life and her memoir No Walls and the Recurring Dream, DiFranco shows the bared soul of an artist who redefined what it means to be a successful musician and how to use a public platform for change.

Price includes a copy of DiFranco’s No Walls and the Recurring Dream. Books distributed at event.
