Over the past decade, a new, controversial energy extraction method known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, has rocketed to the forefront of U.S. energy production. With fracking, millions of gallons of water, dangerous chemicals, and sand are injected under high pressure deep into the earth, fracturing hard rock to release oil and gas. Wenonah Hauter, one of the nation’s leading public interest advocates, argues that the rush to fracking is dangerous to the environment and treacherous to human health. Frackopoly (New Press) describes how the fracking industry began, technologies that make it possible, and the destruction and poisoning of clean water sources and the release of harmful radiation from deep inside shale deposits. Frackopoly is essential, riveting reading for anyone interested in protecting the environment and ensuring a healthy, sustainable future for all Americans.

Douglas Brinkley’s The Wilderness Warrior celebrated Theodore Roosevelt’s spirit of outdoor exploration and bold vision to protect 234 million acres of wild America. Now, Rightful Heritage (Harper), Brinkley turns his attention to the other indefatigable environmental leader – Teddy’s distant cousin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, chronicling his essential yet under-sung legacy as the founder of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and premier protector of America’s public lands. FDR built from scratch dozens of State Park systems and scenic roadways. Pristine landscapes such as the Great Smokies, the Everglades, Joshua Tree, the Olympics, and the slickrock wilderness of Utah were forever saved by his leadership. Rightful Heritage is an epic chronicle that is both an irresistible portrait of FDR’s unrivaled passion and drive, and an indispensable analysis that skillfully illuminates the tension between business and nature – exploiting our natural resources and conserving them.
The public is invited to this monthly meeting of the Oregon Progressive Party. All are welcome, but only members get to vote on decisions.

Protest the DNC! Continue the Political Revolution!

Part of a nationwide Forum Series Featuring: Kshama Sawant and Jill Stein

Hosted by Socialist Alternative and Movement4Bernie

More info:here

Our movement faces a burning question: Do we fall in line behind Clinton's corporate campaign, or do we continue the political revolution and build a new party for the 99%?

Tens of millions are standing against the tide, resisting a Democratic Party establishment hellbent on forcing Sandernistas behind Wall Street's “lesser evil” candidate. But how can we build a political alternative to continue the struggle against the billionaire class?

Movement4Bernie and Socialist Alternative are organizing a series of forums across the country to debate these questions facing our movement, featuring video addresses from Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein and Seattle's socialist City Councilmember Kshama Sawant, laying out the case against backing Clinton, a strategy to stop Trump's right-wing agenda, and how we can build a left political alternative to continue the political revolution.

Moving to America in 2008, Finnish journalist Anu Partanen quickly went from confident, successful professional to wary, self-doubting mess. She found that navigating the basics of everyday life – from buying a cell phone and filing taxes to education and childcare – was much more complicated and stressful than anything she encountered in her homeland. To understand why life is so different in the United States and Finland, Partanen began to look closely at both. In The Nordic Theory of Everything (Harper), Partanen compares and contrasts life in the U.S. with life in the Nordic region, focusing on four key relationships – parents and children, men and women, employees and employers, and government and citizens. She debunks criticism that Nordic countries are socialist “Nanny States,” revealing instead that it is we Americans who are far more enmeshed in unhealthy dependencies than we realize. As Partanen explains step by step, the Nordic approach allows citizens to enjoy more individual freedom and independence than we do.

With its uncanny night howls, unrivaled ingenuity, and amazing resilience, the coyote is the stuff of legends. In Indian folktales it often appears as a deceptive trickster or a sly genius. But legends don’t come close to capturing the incredible survival story of the coyote. As soon as Americans began ranching and herding in the West, they began working to destroy the coyote. Despite campaigns of annihilation employing poisons, gases, helicopters, and engineered epidemics, coyotes didn’t just survive, they thrived, expanding across the continent from Anchorage, Alaska, to New York’s Central Park. In the war between humans and coyotes, coyotes have won hands-down. Dan Flores’s Coyote America (Basic Books) is both an environmental and a deep natural history of the coyote. An illuminating biography of this extraordinary animal, Coyote America isn’t just the story of an animal’s survival – it is one of the great epics of our time.
WHAT’S GOING ON?

Congress is about to decide the fate of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), an anti-democratic deal between 12 countries that was negotiated in complete secrecy by government officials and hundreds of corporate lobbyists. If it becomes law, the TPP would be the largest deal of its kind in history, and it poses a grave threat to good-paying jobs, internet freedom, the environment, access to medicine, food safety, and the future of freedom of expression.

WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT IT?

The TPP text has already been finalized, but before it becomes law, U.S. Congress must approve it. With all the extreme secrecy and blatant corruption surrounding this deal, it’s not hard to see why voters from across the political spectrum overwhelmingly oppose it. Even all the leading presidential candidates are against it! But pro-TPP members of Congress are still plotting to rush the TPP to a vote this Fall. They want to do it quietly. That’s why we need to get loud.

WHAT IS ROCK AGAINST THE TPP?

Rock Against the TPP is a massive effort to sound the alarm about the toxic backroom deal that is the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Through a series of large-scale educational concert events, protests, teach-ins, and trainings, we’ll reach thousands of people who haven’t heard about the TPP yet, and ignite a movement to stop it in its tracks. The tour is a partnership between viral internet freedom nonprofit Fight for the Future and Firebrand Records, the new freedom fighting record label co-founded by Ryan Harvey and Tom Morello.
The Conservation Working Group sponsors forums on conservation topics, connects practitioners in conservation fields, and launches projects based on the Regional Conservation Strategy.

The third in our quarterly conservation forum series is a classic information-sharing event. We're asking organizations to come prepared to give a 3-minute (preferred) to 5-minute (maximum) overview of program priorities for the next 1 to 3 years, beginning with work planned to start this July 1. Our hope is that this will help organizations find partners with similar interests far enough in advance to budget money and staff time appropriately.

If you plan to attend and would like to present, we ask that you RSVP, since time is limited. If you prefer to submit priorities only, via a written document, that is acceptable, too; we plan to compile the information and post it here. Please indicate either option as you fill out this registration form.

The unDemocratic party has proven their loyalty to Wallstreet and the wealthiest elite in their offensive against Bernie's campaign. There can not be a Political Revolution in a counter revolutionary party!

That is why we are rallying this Sunday the 24th at Shemanski Park (park blocks) at 2pm, during the DNC in solidarity with the People's rallies happening outside of the convention there! We will speak out against coporate control and corrupt politics. We will rally for real change in society, for socialism, equity for all!

We called for a movement to build a party of the 99% and reject the corporate Wallstreet agenda represented in the Democratic Party establishment, to be a real fighting force and viable alternative to the dangerous growing trend of Right wing populism. We know that a Hillary Clinton and her financiers are what will throw fuel on the fire of a raging blaze being stoked by the Right wing agenda and bigotted populists like Trump.

We need our own representation to fight the root cause of the crises in our society. We must mobilize, organize, and build movements for the masses. Together we have the power. Bernie has said it is not about him, it's about us. Lets take what we have gathered from our discussion the streets and take action. By showing up and turning out we can connect and build on this energy and passion.

Join us to rally for the causes we believe in, organize to build our movements, and create a fighting party of the 99%!

Television is a community resource, by law. TV affects everybody. TV news affects every struggle for justice.

Local TV news is in serious jeopardy. Speculators – the same corporate folks who owned USA Today – have bought KGW TV just as the Federal Government is ready to auction off broadcast frequencies to the highest bidder. It’s no surprise these new owners are now trying to bust the unions, and demand that the staff sign contracts that would allow amateurs to produce “news.”

The company has announced that it will declare impasse and impose final terms on bargaining units as of June 28. Many further developments on what this company is trying to do to local TV news that demand a response from the Community. More information to come as we do a full mobilization!

After we made history with mass civil disobedience in D.C. last April, Democracy Spring will be at the Democratic National Convention in Philly from 7/25-7/28 demanding that the Democratic party and presidential nominee commit to real democracy in which all our voices are heard, by pledging to prioritize:

-Voting Rights protections
-Publicly Funded Elections
-A constitutional amendment to overturn Citizen's United
-The immediatestep of bringing an end to superdelegates within the Democratic party.

Oregon will be out in solidarity on Thursday 5/28 to spread the word to rush-hour commuters on the east end of the Burnside bridge and stand in solidarity, with local teams across the U.S., with the hundreds who will be engaging in civil disobedience in Philly to demand that we fix our broken democracy and address the real issues facing the vast majority of Americans.
