Nov 20 | Wed | Event sponsored by Neighbors West-Northwest and the Interfaith Alliance on Poverty.
About this EventLight refreshments available at 5:30 p.m. Program begins at 6 p.m. Public comment on the Residential Infill Project (RIP) will open in December, and we invite you to get final updates on the proposal, ask questions and learn about the history that shaped how Portland is zoned today. Hear a presentation from RIP Project Manager Morgan Tracy, who will answer your questions covering the process, who this project will impact, how changes in state law affect the proposal and more. As we look to the future, it's also important to understand our past. We'll learn about Portland's zoning history and how it affects us today from the team behind “Historical Context of Racist Planning,” a Bureau of Planning & Sustainability study. A Q&A will follow each presentation--an opportunity to discuss your questions directly with City staff. Open to all, ticket not required for entry. Read a summary of the Recommended Draft: www.portlandoregon.gov/bps/article/738842 Read the historical report here: www.portlandoregon.gov/bps/79790 Questions? Nov 21 | Thu | Hundreds of people will gather in Salem to demand that Governor Kate Brown use her authority to stop this destructive project once and for all. Can you join me in Salem on Thursday for this important event? Governor Brown: The time is NOW! In the next few months, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will try to rubber stamp this project. At the same time, the Trump Administration is attempting to rewrite important environmental laws, like the Clean Water Act, to take away states’ authority to stop fossil fuel projects like this. This is deeply wrong, unjust, and demands action from all of us. It is a crime for Governor Brown to claim to be a "climate champion" while remaining silent on Jordan Cove—what would be our state's single largest emitter of greenhouse gases. I hope you'll join me in Salem next Thursday to echo the call to #StopJordanCove once and for all. P.S. - Know you can't make it next week? We'll miss you—but you can still join us in demanding action! Click here to call or send a message to Governor Brown right now.
Meeting 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM | 2019 ACTION NIGHTS series: where we'll be joining together every other week in community to take meaningful and strategic action together. From January to June, when the 2019 Oregon Legislature is in session, many Action Nights will be centered upon what's happening in the Capitol, with opportunities to hear direct reports from our Conservation Director and Lobbyist, and hold our elected officials accountable to the people who got them elected. Action Nights will be all about praxis: we'll be learning and growing our organizing skills, then we'll immediately put our new skills to use around a current issue happening in the session.
